Creator Content Production Brief Template: Shot List, Deliverables & Approval Checklist
“We need content” is not a production brief. Before a camera turns on, a creator, clothing brand, artist or small business should know what the campaign needs to communicate, which assets must be delivered and where those assets will actually be used.
This free template turns a loose content idea into a production-ready brief. It is designed for lean independent teams that may need one shoot to produce product photos, vertical video, campaign imagery, short-form clips and supporting assets.
The 9-part creator content production brief
1. Campaign objective
Choose one primary job for the content. Examples: introduce a product, explain a service, build recognition, document a launch, drive traffic to a product page or create reusable brand assets.
Primary objective: ___
Primary CTA: ___
Destination URL: ___
Launch/publish date: ___
2. Audience
Describe the person the content is for in useful terms: what they are trying to do, what they already know, and what would make the message relevant. Avoid a vague audience definition such as “everyone.”
3. Core message
Write one sentence the viewer should understand after seeing the asset. Then define two or three supporting messages. This keeps a shoot from becoming a collection of attractive footage with no communication hierarchy.
4. Deliverables
| Asset | Qty | Orientation | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hero campaign image | 1 | Portrait + crop-safe | Launch |
| Vertical short-form videos | 3 | 9:16 | Social |
| Product/detail photos | 6 | Mixed | Store/social |
| Behind-the-scenes clips | 5 | 9:16 | Stories/archive |
| Thumbnail/cover frames | 3 | Crop-safe | Discovery |
TikTok's current advertising guidance supports standard vertical 9:16, square 1:1 and horizontal 16:9 video sizes; its preview guidance lists vertical video above 540×960 pixels for the referenced ad format. Treat platform requirements as living specifications and check them before paid distribution. Source: TikTok Advertising Policies.
5. Shot list
Build the shot list around editing needs, not just scenes.
- Establishing/environment shot
- Primary subject hero
- Wide full-body/product context
- Medium interaction shot
- Close product/detail shot
- Texture/material macro
- Hands/process shot
- Movement/action sequence
- Clean CTA/end-frame option
- Behind-the-scenes documentation
6. Hook bank for short-form video
Prepare at least three opening ideas before production. A hook can be a visual change, a strong first line, a surprising detail, a direct problem statement or immediate product action. Capture alternatives so the editor can test different openings without rebuilding the entire video.
7. Brand and creative guardrails
Must show: ___
Must not show: ___
Logo treatment: ___
Typography: ___
Color/grade: ___
Reference assets: ___
Required product details: ___
For teams managing many files, use the brand asset file naming system so selects, edits and finals remain identifiable.
8. Usage, permissions and disclosures
Write down where the finished content can be used: organic social, website, email, paid ads, retail, press, or other channels. Confirm music, photography, talent and third-party asset permissions before distribution.
For U.S. endorsements, the Federal Trade Commission says material connections such as payment or free/discounted products should be disclosed clearly and conspicuously when required. The FTC also cautions that platform disclosure tools alone may not always be enough. Sources: FTC Disclosures 101 and FTC Endorsement Guides FAQ.
9. Approval and delivery
Define who can approve the work and how many revision rounds are included before production starts.
- Primary approver: ___
- First-select deadline: ___
- Revision deadline: ___
- Final delivery deadline: ___
- File formats required: ___
- Delivery folder: ___
- Archive owner: ___

The one-shoot asset multiplier
A small team can plan one production day around multiple asset classes instead of shooting one post at a time. The goal is not to manufacture dozens of repetitive posts; it is to deliberately capture enough wide, medium, detail, motion and clean-frame material to support several edits and placements.
For current platform-oriented planning, pair this brief with the Creator Content Size Guide 2026.
